New ligt-gas ballistic instaIlations for studying processes of high-speed impact with space speeds

Space debris, combined with a stream of natural particles - meteoroids, creates a fragmentation - meteoroid environment, which poses a real danger to spacecraft. Therefore, one of the tasks of working out the strength of rocket and space engineering designs is to ensure the strength at a local high-speed impact of mechanical particles. Experimental studies of the vulnerability of rocket and space technology use light-gas guns for high-speed (2 ... 8 km / s) throwing of mechanical particles. The paper describes two new light-gas guns (LSU) that differ in the use of different energy sources (powder charge and compressed air).

                When developing the design of the "classic" GPM (PPH50 / 18) installation, the results of experimental studies and the experience of experimental testing of the LGU with a light piston were used, as well as the RF patent No. 2251063, which proposed several original design solutions for improving the survivability of the installation and stability of the shot parameters. The LGU is designed to obtain speeds of up to 8 km / s of shock workers with a mass of 5 ... 10 g.

                 The use of a powder charge as a primary energy source, creates certain difficulties in the organization of work with the installation. A laboratory that wants to use LGU, it is necessary to purchase a license to work with explosives, properly organize their turnover (accounting, storage, transportation, disposal, etc.), the premises equipped with LGU should be equipped with appropriate safety equipment. Increased requirements are also imposed on the personnel operating the unit. All this significantly complicates the use of such facilities in experimental studies. The paper presents a review and preliminary analysis of some possible designs of the LGU using an energy source alternative to the powder charge, and in particular a three-stage LGU, in the first stage of which a compressed gas is used (RF patent No. 2490580).
