Study of thin-walled structure behavior under shock-wave loading

Reporter: Danilov M.N.

Multi-layer thin-walled structures are now widely used in various fields of technology, since they are the most rational in terms of minimizing weight, saving material and low cost with high strength and rigidity. In civil engineering, they are also used as protective structures in explosive and fire hazardous industries. However, such use requires additional justification.
The present paper is a continuation of previous works [1-4] and is devoted to the study of the dynamic response of thin-walled single-layer and multilayer structures to the impact of impulse loads.
The purpose of the paper is to determine the applicability of various mathematical models of multilayer plates available in the ANSYS Mechanical software package, to compare methods for solving plate dynamics problems, and to use the models considered to study the dynamics of single-layer and multi-layer plates.
The paper presents the results of an experimental study and numerical modeling of the deformation process of duraluminium panels under the action of a shock wave formed as a result of the explosion of a condensed explosive. The character of the deformation and destruction of the panel rigidly fixed along the perimeter is determined. It is shown that the panel is deformed according to the "letter envelope" scheme. The residual plastic deformation of the panel is determined. The shock wave load is described by semi-empirical dependences. The results of the calculations coincide with the experimental data.
Numerical modeling of the deformation of a multilayer plate made of composite materials under the influence of a shock wave was performed. The work of three-layer and six-layered plates with fiberglass plating and a middle layer of foam polymeric materials were studied. A constructive solution has been developed that ensures the highest level of energy dissipation due to the destruction of porous layers. The results of numerical simulation are compared with the experimental data.
