Low pressure cold spraying on materials with low erosion resistance

In the article, the erosion-adhesion transition was investigated in the deposition of aluminum particles by the low pressure cold spray method onto brittle ceramic substrates. Spraying was conducted through sonic nozzles, which can significantly reduce the stagnation gas pressure without the effect of flow separation inside the nozzle and, accordingly, reduce the velocity of the sprayed particles. In the experiments sonic nozzles with two different diameters of the outlet section were used. Two pressure regimes were selected, on each of which the deposition tracks were sprayed at different air temperatures. Single deposition tracks were obtained and their profiles were investigated by optical profilometry.
