Study of the effect of supply of energy and mass on the formation of transonic region in the supersonic flow in a channel of variable cross section

The using of the traditional patterns of burning fuel for the ramjet engines restricts the getting of high specific performance at reasonable overall dimensions. The search for new ways of organizing the combustion of fuels and new power devices is a promising task. The use of jets to control the gas-dynamic flow finds wide application. The method of control using jets and energy was proposed first in [1]. The physical mechanism of this control was explained in [1] too. The physical mechanism of this control is investigated particulary in more detail numerically fo the plane channel [2]. The key point of this control is the creation of a stable transonic region in a channel of variable cross-section.
Here the supersonic flow in an axisymmetric channel of variable cross-section with dimensions corresponding to the experimental setup is considered. The Mach number in the first section of constant cross-section is M ≈ 2. The pulse-periodic energy supply produced by the injected annular jet is made into this section near its walls. The injection was carried out from the gas generator with a pressure p >= 2 atm and p = 1 atm. Hydrogen is supplied with air excess factor equal to 10.
Numerical simulation is carried out in stages within the three tasks. The influence of one of the injected jet (without energy supply) on the shock-wave structure and the size of the separation zones formed near the inflow of the jet is tested on the base of the SST – turbulence model. In the framework of a simple kinetic model considers the influence of the pressure in the gas generator for a process of ignition of hydrogen that occurs due to changed structure of flow near injective jet. As a result of the inflow jet and near-wall burning of hydrogen near the wall of the channel, the pressure increases and creates the effect of the throttle. This leads to the deceleration of the flow and decreasing of Mach numbers. The intensity of the energy release during combustion sufficiently depends on the properties of shock-wave structure and the separation zones in front of the jet, which in turn depend on the pressure in the gas generator. The obtained data of heat dissipation for the weak and the strong jet is used for the solution of a nonstationary problem on the basis of the Euler equations with a pulsed-periodic energy supply and the effect of the parameters of gas-dynamic pulses. The formation of the transonic region in the section of constant cross section under the gas-dynamic pulses is investigated.
